This grilled tofu with cilantro pesto comes from Dr Mark Hyman’s 10 Day Detox Diet is really simple and delicious. This is a great vegan gluten-free dinner whether you are participating in the program or not. But, if you do do the detox, you will feel amazing.

I am totally basking in the afterglow of Dr Mark Hyman’s 10-DAY DETOX program. I’ve been sleeping better than I have in years and I have so much energy. I lost a bit of weight (that I gained on my trip to Italy and Spain) and my allergies (hay fever) have ceased as well. That is the power of rebooting your body and resetting your sugar levels. It is incredible.

As I mentioned in previous posts, that Dr. Hyman’s team picked Melissa Longmire and Rachel Joy Coleto to participate in the beta program from my callout on my Facebook page. We all took part in the detox together. They both enjoyed the detox and found it extremely beneficial.

Melissa wrote on Facebook: “I have struggled with my weight for over 10 years after having two children. Going from 160 pounds to 225…I stay within 220-226. I have very little strength when it comes having will power! Lack of support is a major downfall for me. I want to get back to how I was before children, back to being healthy! Back to feeling beautiful! Plus a challenge would be very welcomed!! As I love a competition even if it is with myself!”

After participating in the 10-DAY DETOX she said, “I was at 220 pounds at the start of the detox. Wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. The recipes were great! Flavor were awesome! The whole thing was manageable. I only suffered caffeine headache withdraws for the first day and a half. I drank plenty of water. Even made some lemon, lime, & mint waters. I felt great the whole time, never felt weak or sick. I dropped only seven pounds but it is a great start. I’ve learned what to look for with ingredients, as well as getting my children to check the labels too.  I’m replacing bad sugar & ingredients with the healthier alternatives.”

Joy wrote a blog about her experience and was very active in Dr Hyman’s private Facebook group. And the recipes are delicious. This grilled tofu and cilantro pesto is so tasty. The best part about the recipes is that they are so quick and easy.

Grilled Tofu with Cilantro Pesto

This grilled tofu with cilantro pesto from Dr Mark Hyman’s 10 Day Detox Diet is really simple and delicious. This is a great vegan gluten-free dinner.

  • 1 bunch fresh cilantro stems removed
  • 1 bunch fresh basil, stems removed
  • 2 cloves garlic chopped
  • 1 (1/2-inch) piece ginger root, peeled and chopped
  • 3 scallions, trimmed and roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup raw walnuts
  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil (reserve 1 tablespoon for serving)
  • Celtic sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

to serve: 

  • 4 ounces arugula (or micro greens)


  1. To prepare the pesto, throw all of the ingredients into your blender or food processor and blast until smooth. Add 2 tablespoons of filtered water if needed to thin out or reach the desired consistency. Add salt and pepper to taste. (I added about 1/4 teaspoon salt.)
  2. To prepare the tofu, fire up the grill, or heat a grill pan. In a large bowl, combine the tamari and sesame oil. Add the tofu and zucchini slices and marinate for about 10 minutes. Grill the zucchini first on a medium high heat for about 2 minutes on each side. Then grill the tofu for about 3 minutes on each side. Set aside.
  3. To assemble, toss the arugula (or other greens) lightly with the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and divde the greens among 4 plates. Arrange the tofu and zucchini slices on top or to the side, and drizzle with pesto or serve on the side.
