Recipe Questions
You do not need a high-speed blender to make the majority of my recipes. I have recipe testers living all over the world using a variety of different machines. When a high-speed machine is required, I will specify it in the recipe instructions. In most cases where a high-speed blender is used, you can use a food processor. Texture will vary.
For the best results with conventional blenders, soak nuts, seeds, and dried fruits like dates and sun-dried tomatoes. This will give you the smoothest consistency. Read more about soaking for health and culinary benefit here.
You can search recipes by:
keyword, category, diet filters, or collections.
To search by keyword: click on keywords and type in your words and then hit apply.
To search by type of recipe: click on categories and select your choice.
To search by dietary restrictions: click on diet filters and select your choice, and click apply to filter recipes.
To search for specific collections: select collections.
My primary goal on this site is to share easy healthy recipes, and share my journey with whole foods. Here, we celebrate the taste, texture and fun of food.
Having said that, I realize that nutritional profiling is important. Particularly, for those of you living with restricted diets and medical conditions.
There are nutrition stats coming soon.
My recipes are designed to be flexible and forgiving.
In some cases, I will suggest substitutions that I have tried or that other readers have told me has worked for them in the recipe post or the notes section of the recipe card.
I do not have specific substitution information for every possible scenario.
I get a lot of questions about substitutions for nuts, seeds, bananas, and avocados.
Different substitutions work in situations depending on what the function of the ingredient is.
Please leave a comment on the specific recipe, and I will respond to you. That way, other readers who may have the same question can benefit. Alternatively, if you'd prefer me to answer your question privately, please fill in the contact form with the specific recipe and foods you are avoiding, and I will help you.
I test my recipes extensively, and if you measure the ingredients and follow the directions, I get very few messages saying they don't work. But, every once and a while, variables such as temperature, altitude, humidity, quality of ingredients, the make and model of blender, stove top, or oven can affect cook times and texture.
Please post a question on the recipe so others can benefit from your experience, or use the contact form to reach out to me privately. I will respond to you promptly.
Blender & Appliance Recommendations
I own almost every blender on the market, and recommend blenders in different price points.
I use the Vitamix 5200, KitchenAid High Performance blender, and KitchenAid K400 blender in my personal life and to develop my recipes.
I use a Kitchen Aid stand mixer.
I also use the attachments at lot to make recipes:

I launched The Blender Girl site in 2010.
I am a self taught home cook. I don't have any formal chef training.
I learnt to cook from my mum, from my own experimentation, and from cooking classes I've taken all over the world during my travels.
I do not have serious food allergies. I have an intolerance to gluten and dairy, and choose not to eat gluten, dairy, eggs, or meat. I do eat a small amount of soy and grains.
My perfect blend is an alkaline, plant-based diet of whole foods. I eat a high percentage of raw foods (leafy greens, non-starchy veggies, low sugar fruits, and sprouted nuts and seeds). The amount of raw foods depends on the season. In the hotter months, I eat a lot of raw foods. In the cooler weather, I eat a bit more cooked foods.
I start my day with two 16oz glasses of lemon water (filtered water with the juice of 1 lemon squeezed into the glasses). I then enjoy a green smoothie or soup for breakfast, depending on the weather. I always mix up the leafy greens I use for variety, and to avoid oxalate toxicity. I then enjoy a salad, wrap, or soup for lunch, and a variety of raw and cooked foods for dinner. I always include probiotic-rich foods like kefir or cultured vegetables with every meal.
For exercise, I mix it up. I usually go for an early morning hike or walk, and do some meditation. I also love indoor and outdoor rock climbing, resistance training, yoga, and pilates.
I also get in my infrared sauna every day, have regular colonics, stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and high-water-content foods, and get lots of sleep and rest.
A big part of wellness is emotional. I maintain a positive attitude and set mindful intentions.
I'm really fortunate to work with some incredible photographers.
