Creamy Almond Banana Date Smoothie

This creamy almond banana date smoothie is one of my favorite smoothies. It is just so creamy and delicious.

Fresh dates are one of the great culinary pleasures of life. Dates are the oldest, and certainly the sweetest fruit, with the highest concentration of fruit sugars. They’re so decadent and fabulous. I eat them in moderation. But, when I indulge, I commit.

Throw some pitted dates in your blender with bananas, almond milk, and coconut water, and you’ve got a dessert shake that will make you weak at the knees.

For a richer, more buttery flavor, add 1/2 cup raw cashews. To make this shake nut-free, use rice milk, hemp milk, or coconut milk.

  1. This sounds yummy! I am always trying to come up with shakes to recommend to my clients as treats. I must send them to your blog.

  2. How many servings is this? I can’t seem to find servings on your site. I am assuming one because I don’t think I will want to share this. ha ha

    1. LOL! SORRY Shanna. I was hopeless about servings when I started this blog and am being better about it, after I realized the importance of it. This makes two 8 ounce glasses. But yes, you won’t want to share!
Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

  3. LOVE LOVE LOVE this smoothie!! I just discovered your blog last night and this is the first recipe I tried. Delicious! I subbed coconut milk for the coco water and almond milk (none on hand). I also added some macadamia nuts. MMMMMMmmmm. Can’t wait to try more! 🙂

  4. This sounds delicious. I saw a link to this post on Twitter and I’m so glad I found you. I can’t wait to try this recipe out.

Do you have any tips for finding affordable young coconuts for fresh coconut water? They cost $3/piece at our local grocery store, and so are a bit out of my budget usually.

  5. Hey Rachel,
Yes! This is one of my favourite shakes. It is YUMMO!
As far as finding affordable young Thai coconuts online….I have only found expensive options. Melissa’s sells them. But they are quite expensive.
You also need to be careful that it is a reliable source that has not dipped the coconuts in chemicals to preserve them for the long journey over to us!
If you only want the water, try the young green coconuts from Florida Coconuts.
A case of 12 makes them $1.75 each. Good for drinking water.
You can also ask your local grocer to sell them to you by the case and they will often give you a bulk discount. You can open them and freeze the water for use later.
    I hope this helps =)

  6. Love this! I slightly modified it to make it non-vegan by adding a large spoonful of plain yogurt. I also add some oatmeal to the mix if I am really hungry. Oink. 🙂 A perfect smoothie for breakfast!

  7. I can’t wait to try this. All my fav ingredients. I have all these to make it. I even have the almonds to make the milk but haven’t ventured out to make almond milk yet. Gonna have to give this a try.

    1. Hey Mary!
I can’t wait to hear what you think.
You don’t even need to make the milk to make this smoothie. Just throw the almonds in with the water and other ingredients.
But making almond milk is really easy.
Check out the recipe on the website.

  8. mmmmmmm drinking it now. I halved the recipe because I just wantedenough for me. I had to use almond milk in a carton because I heard you have to soak your almonds. It is very refreshing and delicious. I like it a lot. I can’t wait to try more recipes on here. I’ve been just making green smoothies but am ready to try different things withmy vitamix.

    1. Hey Mary,
It is best to soak your almonds so they digest better and you can remove the enzyme inhibitors.
But you don’t have to to enjoy this smoothie.
So glad you tried it and liked it 🙂

  9. Ok, I’m going to rename this: Banana Cream Pie in a glass!! So thick, delicious, and just amazing, PERIOD. 🙂

Drank this for breakfast. ^_^ I betcha this would be even healthier with some spinach added in. Ooh, maybe kale? Just throwing some ideas in.

    1. Yes! 2 cups of romaine lettuce or baby spinach leaves are s’blended in this smoothie. So glad you enjoyed this. It is one of my all-time favourites!

  10. Oh Mary – I just LOVE you!
    I KNOW!
This was an early post before anybody was reading my blog I think 🙂 LOL!
Thanks for the support. I really appreciate it!

    1. So glad you enjoyed it. To reduce the degradation of nutrients, I wouldn’t leave it in the fridge for more than 24 hours, but for fun, it will keep in the fridge for a few days.
