Tahini Dressing

February 24, 2017

This tahini dressing with fresh herbs is so easy and delicious you will want to pour it over everything. This recipe is vegan and paleo-friendly.

This delicious tahini dressing with herbs is loaded with calcium from the tahini, and is bursting with incredible flavor from the fresh herbs, onion powder, and mustard. Best of all, it takes less than 10 minutes to throw together in your blender, and keeps in the fridge for a week to drizzle on a healthy salad or to use as a ranch-like dip for fresh veggies.

This tahini dressing is from the fantastic new book from my dear friend, Megan Gilmore, aka, The Detoxinista. Megan’s debut cookbook, Everyday Detox has become a staple in our house for super easy recipes that are healthy and flavorful. The latest installment, No Excuses Detox is a brilliant companion to the first book.

What I love about Megan’s approach to the concept of “detoxing” is that it’s not extreme. In fact, with her recipes and meal plans you won’t even know you’re detoxing. Instead of cleanses and juice fasts, she encourages her clients and readers to eat simply fresh whole foods that encourage the body’s natural detox processes in the liver, kidneys, and skin.

Most people have so many excuses for why “they can’t eat healthy.” Megan provides tangible solutions for having no time, limited finances, and picky eaters in this book by providing easy prep tips and 100 delicious recipes with an emphasis on 15 minute and 30-minute meals, kid-friendly recipes, slow-cooker meals, and freezer-friendly recipes you can enjoy no matter what your circumstance or lifestyle.

All of her recipes are gluten-free and vegetarian. She provides tons of vegan adaptions for the recipes; tips for incorporating high-quality animal protein into the meals for omnivore families; as well as substitution suggestions for those of you dealing with food allergies. So, there really is something for everyone in this book.

Some of my favorite recipes include: nut-free gingerbread granola, freezer oat waffles, chickpea and avocado “egg” salad, mediterranean quinoa salad, crunchy thai salad, creamy mushroom soup, addictive garlic-roasted broccoli, savory sweet potato crackers, southwest lettuce wraps, butternut mac n cheese, roasted vegetable rice bowls with carrot ginger sauce, zucchini bolognese, deep-dish chocolate chip cookie, strawberries & cream freezer pops, and this creamy herb salad dressing.

This dressing thickens in the fridge, and it makes an awesome dip! We enjoyed half as a dip, and then thinned out the remainder to enjoy over a simple romaine and avocado salad.

Note: Use raw tahini, if possible. The raw variety is very light in color and mild in flavor, unlike roasted tahini, which is runny and very bitter. If you can’t find the raw version with no added oil in your local store, purchase it online or make your own by grinding hulled raw sesame seeds in a food processor until smooth.

Another fabulous bonus in this book is the three weeks of healthy meal plans and shopping lists to make transitioning to a healthy lifestyle easy and fun. There’s also a budget-friendly meal plan that feeds you for less than $6 a day, and a speedy meal plan where all of the recipes can be ready in less than 30 minutes.

So, there really is no excuses! I really love this book. The recipes are so simple and accessible. Megan really is the queen of super easy and super tasty.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Throw all of the ingredients into your blender, and blast on high for 30 to 60 seconds until smooth and creamy. (Depending on the thickness of your tahini, you may want to add an additional 1 to 2 tablespoons water to help make the dressing more pourable.) Adjust any seasonings to taste.
  2. Serve immediately, or allow the dressing to chill in the fridge until ready to use. (The dressing will thicken a bit when chilled, making a thick dressing or veggie dip, but you can easily thin it out with additional water, as desired. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.)

Recipe Notes

Use raw tahini, if possible. The raw variety is very light in color and mild in flavor, unlike roasted tahini, which is runny and very bitter. If you can’t find the raw version with no added oil in your local store, purchase it online or make your own by grinding hulled raw sesame seeds in a food processor until smooth.

  1. I can’t have tahini. Do you have an idea for a good replacement or can it just be omitted altogether with no substitute? Thanks!
