I got this colon cleansing juicing tip from my favorite juicing book, Heinerman’s Encyclopedia of Healing Juices. This is my juicing bible. Some of the information is a little out of date. But, it’s still the most comprehensive guide to the health benefits of juicing I’ve seen.

The health benefits of apple juice:

Apple is a staple ingredient in the juicing world, adding sweetness and flavor to otherwise unpalatable combinations. Besides the delicious taste, apples are loaded with natural goodness — containing calcium, phosphorus, sodium, iron, potassium, and small amounts of vitamins B and C.

For detoxing purposes, apple juice is fantastic for cleansing the colon, and is a wonderful natural remedy for constipation. The high pectin content in apples (one apple contains about two grams of pectin) combines with the mineral salts contained in the apple to form an insoluble salt that can have a powerful laxative effect.

A trick I learnt from John Heinerman is to combine equal parts spinach and apple juice to heighten the laxative properties of apples. The oxalic acid in the spinach mixes with the pectin and mineral salts in the apples to clean out the colon! This magic mix is very effective at scraping off impacted fecal matter from the walls of the colon. Drink only one cup of this mixture every four hours, or you may be paying homage to the porcelain bowl more times than you’d like.

Juicing is a wonderful way to detox your system, and get a healthy start to the new year.

I like to use the new year as the perfect excuse to make healthy promises to myself.

Ways To Be Healthy:
  • Sleep and rest.
  • Drink a glass of lemon water to detox after rest, restore an alkaline balance, stimulate the peristaltic movement of the colon, and prepare your body for digestion.
  • Drink at least three liters of filtered water a day to keep hydrated. For maximum effect, add liquid chlorophyll to the water.
  • Purchase organic, non-gmo foods from local sources where possible.
  • Enjoy a savory green alkaline smoothie every day to get your daily dose of greens, and top up your alkaline buffers.
  • Increase the amount of raw foods for live enzymes to aid digestion.
  • Include green leafy vegetables with every meal.
  • Include cultured vegetables with every meal to keep a healthy balance of probiotics in your body for immunity.
  • Soak and sprout your nuts, seeds, and grains to remove enzyme inhibitors and activate nutritional potential.
  • Practice food combining to improve digestion.
  • Keep moving! Engage in some form of stretching, aerobic activity, and weight bearing exercise at least three times a week.
  • Practice deep breathing and/or meditation to reconnect with your inner self, alkalize and relax.
  • Set mindful intentions for the day.
  • “Thoughts Become Things.” Choose the good ones. Be positive about your life and act with gratitude and abundance. This attitude has an infectious quality that brings beauty into the world.
  • Treat others the way you want to be treated. What you put out into the world comes back to you.
  • Tell the people in your life how you feel about them.
  • Volunteer your time to a cause you are passionate about.
  • Start composting.
  • Use food-grade, natural, organic beauty products.
  • Clean your home with eco-friendly food items like lemon juice, baking soda, and vinegar.
  • Reduce your consumption – upcycle and recycle.

  • 6 cups baby spinach
  • 3 green apples, cored
  • 2 handfuls flat-leaf parsley (optional)


  1. Push the ingredients through your juicer, and consume whole. Drink 1 cup of juice every four hours unstrained to relieve constipation.

      Thankyou for your lovely comment.
      I both juice and blend, as I believe they both offer benefits at different times in your life. Whole blended juices made in the Vitamix retaining all of the fibre are extremly beneficial for health. However, during periods of cleansing, detoxing, and acute illness, pulp free juices allow a more gentle digestive process that leaves more energy for regeneration and renewal. You can absolutely participate in the cleanse using a Vitamix. Just blend, taste, tweak flavours, and then strain the pulp out with a nut milk bag or sheer piece of panty hose.

    2. These recipes are amazing!!!!!!! I totally agree there is room for both blending and juicing, usually juices taste better, I use the blender for cold soups.
      I do have to say, that the best colon cleanse I have ever done was one that the candida specialists team recommended, and it made me get rid of stuff in my colon I didn’t even believed was there!!!! I would say 5-6 pounds of pure junk…lol

    3. hi ive searched you in google i interested how to clean colon because i felt my stomach blotted full of wind just like that , always constipated also.

    4. Rosana, that could be due to a lot of things. You may have a food allergy or intolerance to gluten or dairy or something else. It could also be an issue with food combining. Keep a food diary and a clear pattern will develop. You could do an elimination diet under the guidance of a doctor or nutritionist to try and determine what is causing your issues.

  2. If I use my Vitamix (don’t own a juicer) should I add water to create “juice”? Looking forward to next month’s juice recipes!

    1. Yes, just add filtered water, tweak quantities to taste, and then strain if desired. I have drunk this strained and unstrained and have still reaped the benefits. Please read my comment above about blending vs juicing for detoxing.

    1. Hey Lady Subrosa.
      Yes! Absolutely. I am of the belief that any juice is better than no juice. To enjoy this, simply blend in a blender and break down as much as possible, and then strain through a sheer piece of stocking, or fine mesh strainer. Make sure you enter to win one of those juicers.   7. I’m sorry if this seems like an obvious question, but all you’re supposed to consume for 3 days is this juice and water, right? I just want to make sure I’m not supposed to be eating any protein, etc with this. I’m a newbie to juicing!

    1. Anna, that is not a stupid question at all. I don’t think I was clear. You CAN do a 3 day juice fast and consume nothing but juice, water, and liquids. However, I wouldn’t recommend just drinking this one juice. You can drink this juice every four hours for 3 days to help clean out your colon. You can eat other foods during this time. But, you will get better results if you do a juice cleanse with this. I will post all of the recipes in the next three days, and they will stay under 3 DAY CLEANSE recipes in the recipe categories under the icon set to the right of every recipe. I hope this makes sense. Happy New Year 🙂

    1. I know… I am sorry sorry. Most of the giveaways are for Americans as I live in L.A.   9. Hello. I love your blog! So happy that I found it =) I am new to juicing but have been doing raw smoothies for the past year! However, I have GI issues and can no longer tolerate them due to the fibre. So, I figured I would try juicing! Could you please help me with trying to cleanse my system without hurting myself more.   11. I’ve just made this amazingly green juice adding a bit of ginger and then added 2 tablespoon of hemp oil into my glass!
    Wowwww! I can feel my blood cells are jumping inside me and saying “thank you”!

    1. Yes. I understand. It’s not that powerful if you do it in the suggested amounts. Just eat a clean raw diet of high water content plant based foods with smoothies, soups, and juices.

  14. Will this get rid of infections in my body for three days? And I will be healthy? Can you explain what this does and will my colon be cleaned?

    1. No, this juice is a not a one-stop fix. It helps cleanse out the colon. But, you also need to maintain a healthy diet, exercise, keep hydrated, and I also recommend colonics. But, I am not a doctor. Please consult your health care professional about your health.

  15. Juicing, extracting, blending – pulling my hair!! So the Jack Lelane is juicing, the Vitamix is blending, which category do products such as NutriBullet and NutriNinja Duo belong?

    1. Sorry, to answer your question: Nutribullet and Ninja are blenders, and have no more nutritional benefit than any other blender.

    2. They’re blenders. All of those marketing terms are just hype. There is juicing and blending. That’s it. All of this “extracting more nutrients” has not been proven and I don’t subscribe to it. I hope that helps.
