This strawberry basil broccoli sprout smoothie tastes like lemonade.
Are you including broccoli sprouts in your diet? Broccoli sprouts are one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet, and I hop into them with reckless abandon. Sprouts are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and live enzymes. They’re living foods that continue to grow in nutrients after you harvest them. Once you pick your sprouts and refrigerate them, their vitamin content increases as they slowly keep growing! This is very different from many fruits and vegetables which start losing their vitamin content as soon as they’re picked and are often shipped all over the world and stored in warehouses for months before they reach stores.
You can easily make sprouts at home. They’re great in salads, soups, stir-fries, stews, and other dishes. But, they bring on a funky flavor in smoothies.
Freeze-dried sprout powder is a great option for smoothies, and is a phenomenal way to include sprouts in your diet in a tasty way. The Sprout Living broccoli and kale sprout mix contains certified organic, non-GMO seeds freshly sprouted in mineral-rich water, and gently milled and dried for a nutrient-dense powder. Kale sprouts contain antioxidants like carotenoids and flavonoids, and broccoli sprouts contain dietary fiber, vitamin C and potent antioxidants.
Broccoli sprouts are one of the most potent detox foods available. Rich in toxin-tackling glucosinolates, broccoli sprouts rank highest in glucoraphanin, which the body converts to the detox diva phytonutrient sulforaphane. These baby broccoli beauties are also loaded with antioxidant vitamins C and E and glutathione, alkalizing magnesium and zinc, flavonoids, carotenoids, and omega-3s to combat oxidation and inflammation.
The best thing about these sprouts for “greenphobes?” They are practically tasteless in small quantities. I have included one tablespoon in this recipe and you’d never know the greens were in there. This smoothie tastes just like a delicious sweet strawberry lemonade. This is a fantastic way to get sprouts and greens into your children. It is a fantastic drink to enjoy outside by the pool, or for that family BBQ.
Nobody will ever know there are broccoli sprouts in this drink. It is absolutely delicious.

*Probiotic Powder – I add 1/2 teaspoon of probiotic powder to all smoothies to replenish stores of healthy bacteria for immunity, digestion, detox, and to balance the acidic effects of high-sugar fruits and other sweeteners. The really potent probiotics require refrigeration. If you have capsules, break the shell and release the powder. Unsweetened probiotic-rich liquids like kefirs (water, coconut water, milk varieties) or kombucha make wonderful health-promoting additions to shakes, too.
*Celtic Sea Salt – I add a pinch (or more) of this alkalizing, mineral-rich salt to all smoothies to boost the natural flavor of fruits and veggies; temper the acidity of sweet fruits and sweeteners; stimulate the lymphatic system; replenish electrolytes; aid digestion; and help the body access energy. I do not recommend adding common table salt which is generally heated to extreme temperatures, iodized, bleached, processed, and refined. This salt does not have the same benefits. If you have a health condition that requires you to limit your sodium intake consult your doctor before adding salt to your smoothies.
