This sweet cleansing clay smoothie is surprisingly delicious and such a powerful detox agent that helps clear heavy metals and environmental toxins.

Calcium Montmorillonite clay changed my life, and I want everybody to know about it. This is not a sponsored post. I just want to share it with you.

Scott and I have both used clay both internally and externally for years, and have experienced the incredible healing power.

Ingesting clay helped Scott eradicate acid reflux and clear his body of toxins when he had cancer. We both ingest edible clay twice a week to cleanse our bodies, and soak in a clay bath bath twice a week to remove heavy metals and other environmental toxins.

We get all of our clay products from Miracle Clay.

This small family-owned company was founded Inna Zatulovsky after she first learned about the healing powers of clay in the Amazon Rainforests of southeast Peru. Inna began selling products to friends and family, and word spread quickly about the quality and effectiveness of her products. Inna now runs the company with her son Vlad.

For those of you who haven’t come across clay before, Calcium Montmorillonite is an edible clay that has been used medicinally for thousands of years by nearly 200 cultures, including the Egyptians, the Aztecs, and other native people of Mexico, South America, and North America. In modern times, NASA scientists conducted extensive research on this clay, and astronauts consumed it to strengthen their bodies and reverse the effects of osteoporosis caused by weightlessness during space missions.

This edible clay has a strong negative electrical charge that removes toxins, impurities, and harmful chemicals from the body. It is so effective that it has been used to remove extreme levels of radiation from patients affected by the Chernobyl disaster, and is currently being used to treat people affected by the tsunami in Japan. The clay is very rare, and only found in a few desert regions in the world. Calcium Montmorillonite is known as “Living Clay” because it consists of minerals that enhance the production of enzymes in all living organisms.

But, you do need to be careful of the clay you use. There are so many brands out there, and many of them are not high in quality. The reason I use the Miracle Clay products is that they have strict quality control. Extensive hydrothermal exposure and several scientific research studies have found this clay to be the best for internal consumption because it is active and potent. This is because igneous activity deep in the fissures of the earth, brings boiling water to the surface of the earth, and creates extensive pools of bubbling mud. These bubbling pools churn the Calcium Montmorillonite Clay, adding beneficial trace minerals and breaking down the larger size parent material. Over a long period of time this activity brings about complete fragmentation or crystallization and hydrolysis of the clay making it readily available for absorption.

I highly recommend including clay in your wellness routine. Most people are lacking essential trace minerals vital for well being. Human cells are like electrical batteries with positive and negative charges. When the energy of the battery begins to weaken, the cell becomes sick and weak. However, if the dying cell is charged by an electrical current, it can regenerate. Scientific studies have reported that Calcium Montmorillonite Clay, when consumed internally, stimulates the immune system, energizes cells, and absorbs toxins trapped in the stomach, colon, and intestines. This clay also delivers over 57 trace minerals that are easily absorbed by the body.

Clay can help:

  • detox the skin & body
  • cleanse the liver & colon
  • relieve heartburn
  • reduce acid reflux
  • balance body pH levels
  • increase T-cell count
  • help with anemia
  • relieve diarrhea and constipation
  • reduce ulcers
  • reduce stress
  • improve digestion
  • eliminate acne, skin rashes, psoriasis & eczema
  • relieve hay fever
  • reduce scars & bruising
  • reduce arthritis
  • treat insect bites
  • assist with weight Loss

The clay works in four ways to heal humans and animals:

Adsorption – Toxins, metals, and bacteria will bond to the negatively charged clay the way metal shavings are pulled onto a magnet. The clay naturally cleanses the body and skin by eliminating toxins through adsorption.
Absorption – The clay draws in impurities into its layered internal structure, like a sponge. Because of this, clay will offer long-term benefits for disease and infection, not just a quick fix.
Alkaline pH Level – This clay is highly alkaline and helps the body balance its natural pH levels. Keeping the body alkaline has been proven to improve energy levels, strengthen the immune system, reduce pain and inflammation, and slow down the aging process.
Essential Trace Minerals – The average diet is severely lacking essential trace minerals because foods contain lower levels of nutrition than they once did. The clay contains 57 types of trace minerals that are crucial for many body functions including transporting oxygen, normalizing the nervous system, and promoting healthy tissues and bones.

Soaking in a clay bath is one of the safest, fastest, and most effective methods to remove toxins and chemicals that have accumulated in the skin and body. Taking a 20 to 30-minute hot bath opens up the pores of the skin allowing the clay to stimulate the lymphatic system, and deeply cleanse and detoxify the skin and other major organs. For the best results, add about 3 to 4 ounces of the clay under the running water when you are filling up the bath to make sure it spreads nicely throughout the whole bath. The hotter the water, the better.

I have been soaking in clay baths for many years to help remove heavy metals, such as mercury, lead, arsenic, aluminium, and cadmium. Some customers have reported seeing small specks of metal at the bottom of the bath tub after getting out. Very recent research is suggesting that clay baths may be effective in treat autism. Miracle Clay’s customers have experienced drastic results from using this product such as healing severe cases of eczema, psoriasis and removing other skin irritations and rashes. One mother, who had tried virtually everything to help her six year old son’s chronic case of eczema, reported that after one month of using the clay soap, calming cream, and soaking in clay baths a few times a week, his eczema had disappeared.

In addition to edible clay, Miracle Clay have a fantastic range of skincare and healthcare products that we use.

We love the organic clay soaps. They’re organic and extremely gentle, containing only coconut oil, palm oil, and Calcium Montmorillonite clay. The soaps are all scented with natural essential oils instead of artificial fragrances, and are so gentle they can be used on your face. They’re particularly effective for alleviating eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions.

I’m also a huge fan of the Clay Face Wash, Scrub, and Mask. I find that a lot of products dry out my skin, but these products keep my skin soft and smooth. The clay’s strong negative electrical charge draws out toxins and impurities deep within the pores, tightens your skin, and is fantastic for reducing acne. Tip: use the facial wash before applying the clay mask. This will help clean the topical residue, and help the clay to pull out deeper impurities from the pores.

We also use the clay deodorant and oil pull with the raw sesame oil. This oil contains essential fatty acids, and is pure pharmaceutical grade, organic sesame oil that has been handled gently using special ayurvedic protocols. The sesame oil pulls out toxins from the gums to prevent gingivitis. This process is called “Oil Pulling” and was an ancient form of dental care and general detoxification used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine. This technique is still effective today and I swear by it. You can find amazing information at OilPulling.com.

To do oil pulling with this sesame oil, put 1 tablespoon of the oil into your mouth first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and swish it around in your mouth. Pull the oil through your teeth, not just swishing side to side. Move your chin up and down as if you’re chewing to help draw out your saliva and activate digestion. This draws the poisons from the blood through the mucous membranes in the mouth. For the best results, swish for about 15 to 20 minutes.

This seems like a reeeeaaalllly long time when you first start. If you can’t stand the taste or sensation (which is very common in the beginning) start slowly and build up to 20 minutes. When the oil has become saturated with the toxins it has pulled out, it will get white and have a thinner, milky consistency. Spit the oil out (never swallow the oil because it is toxic at this point) and rinse your mouth out with warm salt water. I use Celtic sea salt.

Then brush your teeth with the clay toothpaste or other natural toothpaste. I keep a separate toothbrush for oil pulling because it can build up with toxins and bacteria. Always run the brush under hot water for a few minutes and then allow to air dry. You can oil pull every single day, and some people swish three times a day. I do it first thing in the morning. Just always do it on an empty stomach. On a full stomach, the toxins in your mouth may give you nausea.

Oil pulling can help with:

  • oral health (tooth decay, loose teeth, bleeding gums, bad breath, whitening of your teeth)
  • eczema
  • acne and other skin conditions
  • respiratory disorders like bronchitis and sinus congestion
  • headaches and migraines
  • insomnia
  • thrombosis
  • inflammation
  • arthritis
  • metabolism
  • detox
  • overall health

I found that my teeth were whiter, and I no longer had to scrape my tongue. Just amazing!

Miracle Clay also have wonderful clay shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, and body lotion. The products are free of parabens or sulfates, are really gentle, and great for dry scalp and dandruff.

But, the best use of Calcium Montmorillonite Clay is to take it internally. I cannot rave enough about the health benefits. Of course, always consult your health care professional before trying anything new. But, I encourage you to give clay a go.

Clay contains nearly 60 essential trace minerals that gently absorb dietary, metabolic, and bacterial toxins in the stomach, small intestine, and colon. By taking the clay regularly, you can experience incredible results, including more energy, a stronger immune system, improved digestion, reduced acid levels in the body, and overall well being.

On average, the dose is about 1 teaspoon of powder for every 50 pounds of body weight. So, I take about 2 1/4 teaspoons. For the best results, take a dose everyday when starting out, as it takes time for the minerals to build up in the body and for the clay to take effect. You should start noticing a difference in 2 to 4 weeks.

It is best to consume the clay on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, at least one hour before breakfast. You can also take it on an empty stomach right before you go to bed. I stir the clay into a 16-ounce glass of filtered water. But many people find the taste makes them want to gag. If that’s you, mix the clay into a glass of freshly squeezed juice.

A great way to enjoy the clay is in a smoothie.  Vlad and Inna shared their favorite recipe for me to tweak. You can use any kind of sweet fruit you have to mask the taste of the clay. Just know, that even with a high-speed blender, there will still be a slightly gritty texture. This is normal, and you get used to it.

Let me know what you think about the clay smoothie and the clay products. We love them.

Some notes about consuming edible clay:

*When consuming clay, keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. The more water you drink, the better the minerals will work.
**Do not use a metal spoon to mix or spoon out the clay. The clay has a strong negative electrical charge, and will magnetically attract metal particles from the spoon onto the clay, and we don’t want those metals entering our bodies.

Sweet Cleansing Clay Smoothie

This sweet cleansing clay smoothie is surprisingly delicious and such a powerful detox agent that helps clear heavy metals and environmental toxins.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings 1 16 ounce glass
Author Tess Masters

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (120ml) filtered water
  • 1 cup (25g) curly kale
  • 1/2 cup (12g) loosely packed flat-leaf parsley leaves
  • 1 English cucumber, roughly chopped
  • 1 medium orange, peeled and segmented
  • 1 medium-sized frozen sliced banana
  • 1 cup (160g) frozen pineapple
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, plus more to taste
  • 5 drops alcohol-free liquid stevia, plus more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon  Calcium Montmorillonite Clay (for every 50lbs body weight)

optional boosters:

Instructions

  1. Throw everything into the blender including any boosters, but excluding the clay, and blast on high for 30 to 60 seconds until smooth and creamy.
  2. With a non-reactive spoon, add 1 teaspoon of clay to the blender for every 50 lbs of body weight, and blend on high for 5 to 10 seconds until well combined.
  3. Empty the smoothie immediately after making so that the clay has limited exposure to the metal blades of the blender.
  4. Drink the smoothie immediately on an empty stomach (see post)
  5. Notes *If left to sit, this blend thickens into a solid jello-like mass. **The blend will have a slightly gritty texture due to the clay. ***When consuming clay, it’s important to keep really hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and consuming high-water content foods like melon, cucumber, and tomato. The more water you drink, the better the minerals will work.

Recipe Notes

*Probiotic Powder - I add 1/2 teaspoon of probiotic powder to all smoothies to replenish stores of healthy bacteria for immunity, digestion, detox, and to balance the acidic effects of high-sugar fruits and other sweeteners. The really potent probiotics require refrigeration. If you have capsules, break the shell and release the powder. Unsweetened probiotic-rich liquids like kefirs (water, coconut water, milk varieties) or kombucha make wonderful health-promoting additions to shakes, too.

**Clay: On average, the dose is 1 teaspoon of clay powder for every 50 pounds of body weight. For the best results, take a dose everyday when starting out, as it takes time for the minerals to build up in the body and for the clay to take effect. You should start noticing a difference in 2 to 4 weeks.

**It is best to drink this smoothie on an empty stomach first thing in the morning,

  1. I’ve been researching clay for the past week and twice today, this clay came up on my two favorite links (wink :)) so I guess it was meant to be. I just ordered a jar and will start utilizing it in my lifestyle tool kit. Thanks for all the information and the smoothie recipe too. Love you!

    1. Oh, great! I really think you will love it. I am a huge fan of clay. Can’t wait to hear what you think. xxx

  2. Thank you for posting this! I just ordered my edible clay and look forward to its health benefits. I will also share with my health clients 🙂

  3. Wow – so interesting! You’ve got me wanting to try clay in some of its many forms. The clay toothpaste and taking it internally are really calling to me. Great article!

    1. Thankyou. Clay was really a game changer for me. Particularly ingesting it. Just INCREDIBLE. Please let me know how you go 🙂

  4. I suffer with severe acid reflux and heartburn. I am always on the lookout for other options besides pharmaceuticals. This sounds really interesting. Thank you!

    1. Clay is a game changer! Please read the testimonials on the Miracle Clay website. Just incredible! I have also receive countless emails from people saying it helped with so many things. I cannot recommend it more highly. Please let me know how you go 🙂

  5. I was wondering what the difference between this clay and bentonite. I am looking for a detox clay and until you had never heard of this one. Thanks

    1. Bentonite Clay is amazing. But Calcium Montmorillonite Clay is more effective for internal consumption because of it’s high potency and negative charge. I use both, but prefer this one. I hope this helps.

    1. That is a really interesting point Rose. It is not quite as bad when you have the clay in with other ingredients and the blades are spinning so fast. When the powdered clay comes in direct contact sitting on the spoon it’s a bit more damaging.

  6. In reading the article and then the recipe there is contradicting info on the amount you should consume. In the article you call for 1/2 a teaspoon per 50 pounds but in the recipe it is 1 tablespoon per 50 pounds. Is there a reason for the discrepancy?

    1. Sorry Stacey, that is confusing. 1/2 teaspoon is an average starting point. Then work up to 1 teaspoon and then 1 tablespoon. Because this is in a smoothie, people can tolerate more (the taste, texture, effects etc). I hope that helps. Start with 1/2 teaspoon for a week and see how you go. Then build up from there. I think that’s the safest way to start. But, depending on any health issues, run any use of edible clay past a health care professional if using on a daily basis.

  7. I have a question! Your blog clearly says to use one teaspoon clay for every 50 lbs of bodyweight but Vlad’s recipe says to use one TABLESPOON for every 50 lbs. Big difference. Is there a typo? I’m gonna start with one teaspoon for my whole weight for now, but I soon need to know the correct amount. Thanks so much for this informative website!

    1. Camille, I am so sorry for that typo and for any confusion. It is absolutely 1 teaspoon per 50lbs body weight. I just double checked it with Inna and Vlad. Enjoy.

    1. Great question. Because you’re blending it very quickly at the end and it’s not straight contact with all of the powder, the same neutralizing effect doesn’t happen as much. But, to minimize any loss blend for as short a time as possible. You could also stir the clay in. But, it gets all lumpy.
